Indigenous Synops system will give signals of incoming tsunami and earthquake one hour in advanceNew Delhi: Every year, hundreds of people lose their lives due to marine tsunami and earthquake in countries around the world, while millions of people are affected. If these disasters are known about in advance then the devastation can be avoided in time. This will now be possible with the efforts of Indian scientists. Every movement happening several kilometers below the sea will now be known within minutes. The Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOS) has created the country's first Synergistic Ocean Observation Prediction Service (SYNOPS) lab. Union Geology Minister Kiren Rijiju recently inaugurated this lab.

It will give indications of possible earthquakes and tsunamis in the oceans one hour in advance. Information about the arrival of storm and cyclone will be available three-four days in advance. The great thing is that Synops is the most advanced system available for this information in the Indian and Pacific Ocean region as well as around the world. This system will also tell the fishermen in which direction there can be maximum fish. This lab will also help countries like Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Dr. Srinivas Kumar Tummala, Director of INQUIS, says that the information received from Synops will be given to the disaster management team, so that rescue can be started at the right time. Currently, we take help from international organizations to keep an eye on activities like tsunami, storm, earthquake etc. This lab is completely dependent on advanced sensors. Any special movement inside the sea will be detected in less than a second and accurate estimates will be sent to the lab. A warning will be issued after its reading.
