1. Buhari Declined Assent To Electoral Bill Due To His Love For Nigerians – Malami

The Minister for Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has revealed why President Muhamadu Buhari refused to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

In an interview on Radio Kano on Sunday, Malami said the President declined assent to the bill because the document didn’t capture the interest of all Nigerians.

The minister added that Buhari’s love for Nigerians and excessive cost implication raised in the bill was part of the reasons for the president’s action.

Malami stressed that signing the electoral bill into law will lead to several litigations, adding that the bill is discriminatory and supports insecurity.

He, therefore, disclosed that President Buhari will not assent to the bill until the interest of all Nigerians is captured in the document.

2. Thugs Attack PDP Congress Venue In Zamfara State, Destroy Vehicles

Thugs on Monday attacked and destroyed properties including vehicles at the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Congress in Zamfara State.

Some of the other materials destroyed by the thugs include voting materials, nomination forms, and chairs. Canopies at the venue were also set ablaze.

Naija News understands the congress was eventually shifted from Zaitun Oil mill, behind State Pilgrim Board to the Command Guest House in Gusau, the state capital.

Reacting to the attack, the Personal Secretary to Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Umar Aminu was quoted by Channels Television to have said the PDP won’t be intimidated by the happening.

Some of the PDP stalwarts present at the congress include the Zamfara Deputy Governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, and the Caretaker Chairman of the party, Ambassador Bala Mande.

3. Okorocha’s Son-In-Law, Uche Nwosu Breaks Silence After Release

The son-in-law of the former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, Uche Nwosu, has been released by the Nigerian Police Force.

Recall that security operatives on Sunday arrested the former Governorship candidate in a church service at St Peter’s Anglican Church Umunwokwe Village Eziama-Obaire Nkwerre LGA of Imo State

The development was disclosed in a statement released by the Special Adviser to Nwosu on media, Nwadike Chikezie.

He condemned the state government led by Governor Hope Uzodinma for not respecting the house of God where the son-in-law of the former governor of the state was arrested.

4. ‘He Can’t Be Trusted’ – Masari Rejects Dialogue Request From Bandit Kingpin, Bello Turji

Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has described a bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, as a liar who cannot be trusted.

In a chat with DW Hausa radio on Sunday, Masari stated that the letter written by the bandit leader to President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State requesting dialogue and ceasefire should be totally ignored.

In the letter, Turji requested that Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, other traditional and religious leaders in the country should be part of the meeting.

Speaking further, Masari said the bandit leader was not sincere in his letter, adding that the time for a peace accord has expired.

The governor asked Turji to dialogue first with the families of his victims, adding that the bandit leader has no right to call for a dialogue.

5. APC Reacts To Nwosu’s Arrest, Says Nobody Is Above the Law

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has justified the arrest of a former governorship candidate in the state, Uche Nwosu.

The party in a statement on Monday in Owerri, the state capital through its publicity secretary, Mr Cajetan Duke said due process was followed in the arrest.

Naija News recalls Nwosu, the son-in-law to former Governor Rochas Okorocha was arrested on Sunday in a church service at St Peter’s Anglican Church Umunwokwe Village Eziama-Obaire Nkwerre LGA of Imo State.

Though he has since regained his freedom as confirmed on Monday, the manner of his arrest by security operatives has caused different reactions.

On Monday, the Imo APC told newsmen that the former governorship candidate was lawfully arrested by the police after resisting invitations, adding that rumours on his abduction were false and misleading.

The statement also rejected claims that the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has been unable to manage the security situation in the state.

6. IPOB Members Protest In Jerusalem, Demand Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Monday protested against the continued detention of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Naija News reports that the proscribed group took to the street in Jerusalem to demand the unconditional release of their detained leader.

The IPOB members were seen walking peacefully towards the seat of power in Jerusalem with both the Biafran and Israeli flags.

In a viral video, the Biafran agitators were seen soliciting the support of the Israeli government in achieving the self-determination of the Eastern region.

7. Electoral Bill: National Assembly Attempted To Become Sole Administrator Of Political Parties – Lamido

A former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido has agreed with the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari not to sign the amended electoral bill into law.

Lamido submitted that political parties in the country should be allowed the best way to determine their candidates for election without any overbearing influence from outsiders.

In his view, the content of the bill was an attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled National Assembly to turn itself into a sole administrator of the political parties.

According to the former Governor who spoke yesterday (Sunday) at his Bamaina country home in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa, President Buhari’s decision to reject the bill has vindicated his own position on the matter.

Revealing his own position, Lamido agreed that the bill would have created a huge financial and logistics burden on political parties.

8. Bandit Terrorists Attack SGF’s Hometown

An attack by bandit terrorists has seen residents of Kwapre and Dabna villages in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State flee their homes for safety.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha and the late Nigerian Army Brigadier General, Dzarma Zurkusu are from the affected community.

The community leader in Garaha, Hon Hyella, while speaking on the development said the people fled the community to escape being trapped.

The attack was confirmed by the spokesman of the state police command, Suleiman Nguroje.

He said, “Yes, there’s a kidnap scare around those villages. Of course, it’s normal for people to be scared. But the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, has directed the deployment of troops to safeguard the areas.”

9. IPOB Set To Make New Move On Biafran Struggle, Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has revealed the next move towards its struggle for independence and the continued detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian government.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, the secessionists revealed that the Head of Directorate of State, Chika Edoziem, will address members via Radio Biafra on Saturday, January 1 by 7:00 PM on the important matters.

The statement signed and issued by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, stressed that Edoziem will speak on important matters to chart the struggle for the sovereign Biafra nation.

Powerful also noted that the broadcast would be aired live on Facebook and other social media platforms.

He explained that the group’s achievements over time, challenges, and roadmaps to its liberation are a thing of priority in the scheduled broadcast.

10. Fulani Group Establishes Football Association

Kautal Hore, a Fulani socio-cultural group has in a bid to encourage its younger tribesmen in engaging in social activities, especially sports, established a football association.

Naija News reports that the Jigawa State chapter Chairman of the association, Alhaji Umar Dubantu, disclosed this during interaction with news reporters in Dutse, the state capital on Monday.

Dubantu told journalists that the group will roll out talent discovery events for nomadic children across the state.

Vanguard quoted Dubantu as saying that the sporting association would socially lead to the inclusion of the Fulani youth in all aspects of life, like their counterparts across the country.
