Sultan Of Sokoto Reacts To Plateau Killings

Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has condemned the killing of over 20 travellers in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Naija News recalls that a militia group had attacked some commuters killing over 20 Muslims and injuring scores on Saturday morning, along Rukuba road, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Following the killing, Governor Simon Bako Lalong imposed a 24-hour curfew in Jos North and dusk-to-dawn in Bassa and Jos South local government areas.

But in a statement on Sunday by the Director of Administration, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Arc. Zubairu Haruna Usman-Ugwu, the Sultan condemned the killing of the Fulanis.

The NSCIA President-General affirmed the statements of the Governors of Plateau and Ondo states that it was a case of mistaken identity and not particularly intended for the Muslims.

The Sultan, however, appealed to all Muslims to be calm and that nobody should take laws into his or her hands.

The Council re-emphasizes that no human life deserves to be wasted on any ground be it religious or ethnic. The Council is monitoring the investigation and would ensure that justice is done.

“In the meantime, while efforts are on to locate the eight missing Muslims, the council urges the security agencies to fish out all the perpetrators of the dastardly acts and ensure that adequate justice is done,” the statement read in parts.
