Medical College Claims Some Trying To Exploit Suicide For Ulterior Motives

Monday, 20 MAY 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Reiterating that the recent suicide by one of its first year PG students is very unfortunate, the SGRR Institute of Medical and Health Sciences stated that some people are exploiting the death for ulterior gains. The medical college administration also submitted a complaint letter to the director general of police alleging that some elements on social media were defaming the institution by spreading false information. A communique from the institution stated that PG student Devesh Garg was experiencing issues in his studies. His father had visited the college and he was advised that his son should complete the course. Nobody among Garg, his father or any of his guardians had made any verbal or written complaint to the college. Stating that Garg’s suicide is under investigation, the college clarified that it cannot explain the reasons for him taking this step. “The medical college faculty and students are bound by National Medical Council (NMC) regulations and the faculty behave well with the students. It was alleged that the student’s thesis was torn by a teacher, which is incorrect as he was a first year student whereas the thesis is submitted in the third year. Some students and young doctors are trying to achieve ulterior aims by exploiting this death. This is being probed and the institute supports a fair inquiry against such students. The post mortem report will reveal the cause of death but not the reason for his mental stress. His family members or other associates who may be aware of why he was under stress can inform the medical college about it,” the institute stated.
