The main accused in theDehradun land registry fraud case Kanwarpal Singh alias KP Singh died in the district jail of Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur on Thursday. Hypertension and heart attack appear to be the main causes of his death, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He told this correspondent that as per his telephonic conversation with the Saharanpur SSP and Saharanpur district jail head, KP Singh reportedly fell unconscious in the jail and was then taken to the hospital for treatment. However, the doctors declared him dead stating hypertension and heart attack to be the main causes, the SSP said. He also said that a police team was also sent to Saharanpur from Dehradun on Thursday evening to get detailed information regarding his death. Speaking about how his death will affect the land registry fraud case in which the police have arrested several accused, Singh said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Dehradun police had collected all necessary information and evidence from Kanwarpal regarding the case when he was in a Police Custody Remand (PCR) here.  He was also an accused in some cases in Saharanpur where he was sent after PCR in Dehradun. Singh further informed that the SIT has gathered concrete evidence in the land registry fraud case and it will soon file a chargesheet against guilty parties in court. According to the police, KP Singh was allegedly running a big network of defrauding people for the past several years using fake land registries, through which he had earned crores of rupees. As per the claims of the police, many white collared people including prominent advocates were his accomplices in this fraud and the names of many are yet to be made public. “The SIT is still investigating the case but we have gathered crucial evidence in the case due to which we are sure all culprits involved will be brought to justice by the court,” the SSP added.
