400 UTC buses not to be allowed into Delhi from Nov 1

Thursday, 19 OCTOBER 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In latest news from Dehradun, in a setback to the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) during the festive season, about 400 buses operated by it will not be allowed to enter Delhi from November 1.  Notably, the Delhi government has notified that only those buses that meet the BS-VI emission norms will be allowed to enter the national capital from November 1. Yet, there is not a single BS-VI compliant bus under UTC’s ownership. There are 150 CNG buses which conform to the BS-VI emission norms though. Notably, approximately, 30,000 passengers avail bus service daily from Uttarakhand to Delhi. While 250 buses from Garhwal division operate on the Delhi route up to Kashmiri Gate 150 buses operate from Kumaon division on the same route up to Anand Vihar.

Speaking on the matter, the managing director UTC Deepak Jain said that though they had received the advisory from the Delhi government on matter related to pollution they are yet to receive any official order from the Delhi government about the ban to be imposed on the BS-VI noncompliant buses.  According to the UTC officials, the bus service from Uttarakhand to other States than Delhi might be affected if the Delhi government order is enforced. Notably, UTC operates bus service to Gurugram, Faridabad, Agra, Jaipur, Ajmer and Alwar via Delhi.
