Mahila Congress Protests Against Excise Policy

Wednesday, 11 OCTOBER 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Mahila Congress held a protest against the liquor policy of the State government here on Tuesday.

The party workers led by the president of Mahanagar committee of Mahila Congress, Urmila Thapa assembled at Astley Hall and held the protest. They also burned an effigy of the State government on the occasion.
Addressing the party workers, Thapa said that the Congress is consistently demanding employment for the youngsters of the State. The party is also asking for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Ankita Bhandari murder case for exposure of the name of the VIP allegedly involved in her murder. Thapa said that the Congress is demanding safety of Dalits, minorities and relief from disaster and dengue but the government has remained apathetic to these demands.  Instead of addressing public grievances and issues the BJP government is working to ensure that liquor reaches every household. She said that under the new policy every person can open a bar in his residence.

Thapa said that the Excise Policy of the State is protecting the liquor mafia and encourages the smuggling of liquor. She said that during the assembly elections the BJP had promised to ban liquor in the State but after coming to power it has forgotten this promise and has implemented an excise policy which supports liquor mafia and smuggling.

The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni and other leaders attended the protest.
