MCD Continues Anti-dengue Campaign, Challans Departments And Citizens For Negligence

With the number of dengue cases continuing to rise especially in the provisional State capital, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun continued its campaign by undertaking foggind and spraying of larvicide in various areas of Dehradun on Sunday. The corporation also issued challans to offices which were responsible for digging ditches on the roads and leaving them open.

On Sunday the MCD team inspected the ditches dug by various departments and service providers for construction of drains, road widening and laying of pipelines, among other works. The water accumulated in such ditches was inspected and the staff sprayed larvicide on finding Mosquito Larvae in the water. The department and service provider concerned were also issued challans amounting in total to Rs 1,36,000. In the past, the Dehradun municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal had directed these departments and service providers to promptly fill the ditches dug for various works to prevent accumulation of rainwater. However, the departments and others exhibited negligence following which the MCD took action. According to officials Rs 66,000 challan was issued to the office of office of Executive Engineer of PWD PIU, DSCL on finding Aedes mosquito larvae in water accumulated in the ditches dug by these agencies on Haridwar Road, Chakrata Road, Haridwar Bypass Road  and other sites. Further, Rs 44,000 challan was issued to the office of PWD Rishikesh division executive engineer for larvae found at their work sites on Raipur Ring Road and Shahzada Road. Similarly, Rs 10,000 challan was issued to the office of executive engineer National Highways, Doiwala and Rs 16,000 challan was issued to Peyjal Nigam/Jal Sansthan.

In addition to this, the MCD carried out fogging in various wards using six large vehicles and 100 small machines. Officials informed that eight tractor mounted spray machines were used to spray larvicide in drains and other sites where aedes larvae could be present in 10 wards of the city. This work was carried out in Dronpuri, Jakhan, Mata Mandir Road, Karanpur, Mehuwala, Chaktunwala, Gujrada Mansinghwala, Race Course South, Vijay Colony and Dehrakhas wards.

Twelve teams of the MCD headed by 12 sector magistrates conducted the campaign to check for mosquito larvae and destroyed the same in 17 locations while also collecting Rs 14,900 challan.
