The Uttarakhand Congress has termed the victory of BJP in Bageshwar Assembly by-election as the victory of the arrogance of the government. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara thanked the people of Bageshwar for the support they extended to the party. He said the party will continue to fight for the interests of the people of Bageshwar. Mahara said that win and loss are part and parcel of democracy but the manner in which the official machinery was misused in Bageshwar is not a good sign for democracy. He said that sympathy has won in Bageshwar while issues related to the public have suffered a loss.  The PCC president said that the Congress party focussed on atrocities on women, Ankita Bhandari murder, competitive exam paper leak, lathi charge on the unemployed, Agniveers and migration but it failed to win. He said that the vote for the Congress party has increased. The PCC chief further opined that the BJP government has insulted the public sentiment by blatantly misusing official machinery.

Mahara added that the Congress party will continue to fight against the “fascist” policies of BJP.
