As part of its aim to achieve a ‘Congress-Mukt’ Uttarakhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party has given its MPs the responsibility of ensuring that the party wins from the 23 Assembly Constituencies it had lost in the last election. The step comes at a time when the party is stepping up its activities in view of the local body and cooperative elections to be held this year and the Lok Sabha elections to be held early next year.

The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan informed that the party’s State president Mahendra Bhatt has fixed the responsibility of the five Lok Sabha and three Rajya Sabha Mps for Assembly constituencies where the party is electorally weak. Bhatt has directed that all the MPs will maximise their participation in organisational and public participation programmes in these constituencies. They will spend nights in rural areas, hold tiffin meets and participate in programmes aimed at enhancing coordination with the public. The MPs will listen to public grievances and attempt to either resolve them on the spot or communicate them to the government. Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has been made responsible for Haridwar Rural, Jwalapur and Khanpur constituencies while Garhwal MP Tirath Singh Rawat has been allocated Badrinath and Dwarahat constituencies. Yamunotri has been allocated to Tehri MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Lohaghat, Dharchula, Pithoragarh and Almora to Almora MP Ajay Tamta while Khatima, Nanakmatta and Kichha to Union minister of State and Nainital MP Ajay Bhatt. Among the Rajya Sabha MPs, Naresh Bansal has been given Manglaur, Bhagwanpur, Piran Kaliyar and Bajpur constituencies while Pratapnagar, Chakrata and Haldwani have been given to Anil Baluni and Laksar, Jhabreda and Jaspur constituencies to Kalpana Soni.
