Uttarakhand has completed 21 years of formation today. The state was formed on November 9, 2000 after combining with the districts from North western part of the Uttar Pradesh and a portion of Himalayan range. Earlier known as Uttaranchal, it is the 27th state of the country. Dehradun is the winter capital and Gairsain is the summer capital of Uttarakhand.

On the occasion of the State Foundation Day, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced the names of five well known personalities who have done commendable work in different fields and that they will be awarded with Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman Award.

Famous folk singer Narendra Singh Negi, writer Ruskin Bond, well known environmentalist Dr. Anil Joshi, mountaineer Bachendri Pal and Former Chief Minister Late Narayan Dutt Tiwari have been selected for the award.
