Commission directs CS of U’khand for return of people of state stranded elsewhere in a phased manner.

The Human Rights Commission of Uttarakhand has directed the chief secretary (CS) of Uttarakhand to make arrangements for return of people of Uttarakhand stranded in other states in a phased manner. Taking cognisance of the application filed by senior Congress leader Jot Singh Bisht, the chairman of the commission, Justice V K Bisht gave the order to CS on Tuesday. In his application to the commission, Jot Singh Bisht had said that for return of stranded people of Uttarakhand in different states he had written a letter to the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on April 14.

With this letter a list of 630 people stuck in different states was submitted. Bisht wrote another letter on April 19, this time with a list of 1651 people. In his application to commission, Bisht further submitted that Uttarakhand government deployed Volvo buses of Uttarakhand roadways to send 1800 tourists of Gujarat stranded in state due to lockdown to their homes. Similarly 200 foreign nationals from Rishikesh were allowed to go to Delhi and more than 150 students were brought back from Kota in Rajasthan by the state government. He said that in context of these examples, the demand of non resident Uttarakhandis’ stranded in other states is justified.

In his order, the chairman of Commission, Justice Bisht said that due to closure of hotels and factories, the problem of food and shelter has arisen for many of these people and necessary action is needed to be taken on part of the government. The Commission also said that measures like social distancing, health related parameters should be followed in home coming of these people.
