STF applies for remand of 4 accused in cash seizure case

The Special Task Force (STF) has applied in court for remand of the four accused in a case which saw three police men allegedly seizing cash from a property dealer under the pretext of checks and seizures for the enforcement of Model code of conduct. According to the First Information Report lodged by victim property dealer Anurodh Panwar, the said incident happened on the night if April 4, about a week before polling in the state.

The STF Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Swatantra Kumar told The Pioneer, “An application for the remand was filed on Monday evening and presented in the court on Tuesday. For how long we are able to get them on remand depends on the discretion of the court.”

It is pertinent to mention here that it has been established by STF that on the night of April 4, a black bag was taken from Anurodh Panwar by Sub Inspector Dinesh Negi, Constable Himanshu Upadhyay and Manoj Adhikari. They had used the government SUV of Garhwal Inspector Genreal (IG) Ajay Rautela, though the SUV has been seized, but the content inside the bag is still uncertain. The three suspended cops and another person are currently in judicial custody.

Revenue police constable run over by utility

A revenue police constable was run over fatally by a utility van near Sahiya Patwari post on Tuesday. The deceased Ajab Singh Rathour was on duty at the time of the mishap. Police have seized the utility van and arrested the driver and helper who were driving from Sahiya to Vikasnagar.

Sahiya Patwari Jay Lal Sharma said, “The accident happened at around 9 AM when Rathour was on traffic duty near the post. A utility van, which appeared to be out of control ran over him before hitting a car. He was severely injured; we first took him to the Sahiya community health centre from there he was referred to higher centre. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the higher centre.” Rathour was set to retire in December this year.
