Jhabreda MLA Files Petition In HC

Alleges action pending in 2007 FIR due to pressure from Khanpur MLA

The dispute between BJP MLAs Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ of Khanpur and Deshraj Karnwal of Jhabreda was resolved recently after intervention of the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. However, there is a possibility of it escalating now that the Jhabreda MLA has filed a petition in the high court. In his petition, Karnwal has stated that about 12 years after he filed an FIR in Roorkee police station, the probe is still on in the said case and the chargesheet has not been filed in the court. He has alleged that the police are functioning under pressure from the Khanpur MLA in the case. The high court single bench of justice Sharad Kumar Sharma has directed the investigating officer concerned to appear in court.

According to the case details, the Jhabreda MLA has filed a petition in the high court stating that he had lodged an FIR at Roorkee Kotwali in April 2007. In the FIR he had stated that he was elected member of the Haridwar district Panchayat from Khanjarpur. He had accused Jaipal, Hari Singh and Surendra Dabane of conspiring and forging Karnwal’s ration card and family register in order to cause damage to him. Since these documents were found to be forged in an inquiry, Karnwal had sought legal action against the three in the FIR. The Jhabreda MLA has alleged that the investigating officer had filed a chargesheet during December 2007 in the case but citing further investigation as a ground, the senior officers did not submit the chargesheet in the court. The investigation in the case is still pending, said the petitioner.

It is pertinent to mention here that the two MLAs of the BJP had been levelling allegations and counter-allegations at each other for some time. While the Khanpur MLA had alleged that his Jhabreda counterpart had used a false caste certificate, Karnwal had questioned Champion’s qualifications and success in execution of developmental works. Considering it to be a sign of indiscipline, the BJP State unit had also issued notices to the two MLAs. However, their dispute was recently resolved after the intervention of the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. The situation appeared to have returned to normal until Tuesday when the Jhabreda MLA filed a petition in the high court.
