Bayern Munich contact Ralf Rangnick for managerial role

Former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Bayern Munich has reached out to him regarding the managerial position at the Bundesliga club.

With current Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel set to depart at the end of the season, Rangnick has emerged as one of the potential candidates to succeed him.

The 65-year-old, who is currently leading the Austria national team in preparations for the upcoming European Championship, disclosed the contact from Bayern Munich to 90minuten.at.

Acknowledging Bayern’s interest, Rangnick stated, “There has been contact from the side of Bayern Munich, and I have informed the Austrian Football Association.”

When asked about his readiness to consider the opportunity seriously, Rangnick emphasised that it would depend on Bayern’s definitive offer and his personal inclination. He highlighted the importance of discussing any potential move with the Austrian FA.

Reflecting on his motivations, Rangnick expressed that monetary considerations would not be the decisive factor for him. Instead, he emphasised factors such as the opportunity to make a difference, develop a team, and achieve success.

While Rangnick remains focused on his current role with the Austrian national team, his coaching pedigree in Germany is well-respected.

With successful spells at clubs like Stuttgart, Hannover, Hoffenheim, Schalke, and RB Leipzig, including a German Cup win and a Champions League semi-final appearance with Schalke in 2011, Rangnick brings a wealth of experience to any managerial role.

Bayern Munich, eager to reclaim their dominance in German football after being dethroned by Bayer Leverkusen this season, are in search of a manager who can lead them back to the summit of Bundesliga success. While Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso was also rumoured for the Bayern job, he has opted to remain with his current club.
