I’ll give Bawumia and his team showdown if they continue religious & tribal campaign – Ken Agyapong

Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong says he will give Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his campaign team a bombshell if they continue with their religious and tribal campaign.

Ken Agyapong, who is also a New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, accused some elements within the party of attempting to offer him bribe to step down for the Vice President ahead of the party’s Presidential primaries.

He said after declining the offer, they again offered a promise of making him the running mate of Dr. Bawumia, an offer he allegedly declined.

He described the Ashanti Region Chairman of NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, as a “small boy who lacks manners” for insulting former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen after the latter resigned from the party.

Addressing NPP Supporters after the Kumasi Showdown walk in Kumasi, the flagbearer hopeful said the resignation of Mr Kyerematen from the NPP is a sign of repetition of the 1979 history if he, Ken Agyapong, does not win the 4th November 2023 primaries.

He threatened to give the party a monumental showdown if anyone attempts to scheme to undermine his chances of becoming the Presidential Candidate of the NPP.

In what appears to be a caution to the party leadership, Mr Agyapong also warned that Mr Kyerematen would be a threat to the fortunes of the ruling party’s quest to ‘break the 8’.

“Do not let history repeat itself. Let’s not allow stalwarts of our party left to form another party. Victor Owusu who led PFP lost the election to Limann’s PNP because his own people rejected him.

“Some people left to form the UNC, when the 1979 election went into run-off, PNP won, even though the votes of PFP and UNC combined would have won us power, but disunity,” he stated.

Supporters of the NPP Presidential Candidate hopeful joined him on Saturday for the second health walk in Kumasi dubbed Kumasi Showdown.

The supporters converged at Bantama State Boys School Park near Suame Roundabout in Kumasi before they hit the street from Abrepo Junction, through to Bnatama High Street, Adum Pampaso, and continued to Aseda House area to Asafo Labor Roundabout and ended at the Kumasi Jubilee Park.

The walk was full of fun as supporters danced to various jama and brass band songs to demonstrate the support for Kennedy Ohene Agyepong for his commitment to NPP and the country.

Supporters of former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, who resigned from the party on Monday, September 25, also joined the walk to offer their support to the Assin Central legislature.

The supporters were entertained by the Kumawood legend Actor Agya Koo, Gospel artiste Kwadwo Ampong, among other musicians.

Speaking to the supporters and delegates and other groups at the Kumasi Jubilee Park, former Spokesperson of Alan Kyerematen Campaign in the Ashanti Region Abraham Boadi called on supporters of Alan Kyerematen who are delegates to vote for Kennedy Agyapaong.

He described Kennedy Agyapong as a true patriot of the party who shares similar vision of Alan.

He said the future of NPP in the country lies on the victory of Mr Agyapong.
