Central African Republic’s star man to miss Ghana match

Central African Republic have suffered a major setback ahead of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Ghana next month, as their captain, Geoffrey Kondogbia, has suffered a serious injury that will keep him out of the September 7 match in Kumasi.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder suffered the injury while playing for Marseille in Ligue 1. He was badly injured after collapsing during an aerial duel for the ball during FC Metz’s 2-2 away draw. Kondogbia had to be replaced before the hour mark, and according to reliable sources, he will be out for six weeks.

Both teams have a chance to qualify for next year’s tournament in Ivory Coast, with the Central African Republic needing three points to make it while the Black Stars, who are currently top of the qualifying group, need just a point.

The match will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium, and coach Chris Hughton is expected to name his Ghana squad before the end of this week.
