Verna Changing Lives Campaign: Female coconut seller granted GHC 5000 to settle debts.

A female coconut seller at the Tema station in Accra was named as the winner of the first day of the Verna Changing Lives campaign held in Accra.

The campaign dubbed ‘Accra Turning Point’ which sought to improve the lives of individuals marred with hardship began on Wednesday and is expected to continue for the next 12 weeks.

On the opening day, out of the several people trying to make ends meet in the markets and bus stations, the story of a Female Coconut Seller, Lorraine Obeng touched the hearts of many.

The dedicated mother of two gave an explanation of her problems, saying that she had chosen to work in such a male-dominated business because she believed that her children’s education was crucial.

The 44-year-old added that she hires a wheelbarrow at a cost of GHC 15 daily in which she carried the fruits to sell. She was also working on repaying a business loan.

Verna purified drinking water through the ‘Changing Lives’ initiative under the Twellium Foundation have therefore granted her GHC 5,000 support to settle the debts including that of her children’s education.

The campaign will continue as Verna remains determined to transform the lives of the vulnerable on the streets of Accra.
