Haruna Iddrisu vows to protect all NDC MPs, says the most functional arm of the party is the Parliament organ

The Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has said the opposition lawmakers have lived up to expectation regarding the work they were been given by their constituents and the party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said although a section of the public express disappointments with their work sometimes, the Minority has been the most active and functional organ of the NDC.

Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Evelyne Tengmaa ahead of the delegates’ conference of the NDC expected to take place Saturday December 17, Mr Iddrisu who is also lawmaker for Tamale South said “Jealously, I will protect my Members of Parliament and their seats because we have contributed in making the NDC look good and look good into the future, we deserve to be supported.

“The most active and functional organ of the party, in my view, has been the Parliamentary organ. We have lived up to the calling, sometimes with some disappointments, sometimes with name calling by others including the media when they are not adequately informed.”

Mr Iddrisu further asked the leadership of his party, the NDC to rebrand itself in order to make it a credible, worthy alternative.

In his view, some of the issues of the main opposition party being reported on do not make the NDC a credible alternative hence, that must be worked on immediately.

Mr Iddrisu who is also lawmaker for Tamale South said “I have a duty to keep the unity of the party. I have maintained and I have said it publicly that the NDC needs to work to brand itself.

“In that branding, we need to position the NDC as a worthy, credible alternative. Some of the matters and issues being reported on do not position the NDC as that worthy, credible alternative,” he said.

“We need to work at it,” Mr Iddrisu stressed.

He further stated with regards to violence that characterized the national youth organizer and women’s organizers elections last week that “As human institution with people with diverse backgrounds, there are those who don’t share the ideals and values of the NDC and there are those who don’t understand them, there are those who because they are humans may have acted in ways that they themselves may have regretted their conduct.”
