Medeama appoint David Duncan as new coach ahead of league opener

Medeama have named David Duncan as their new head coach ahead of their Ghana Premier League opener against Legon Cities on Sunday.

The former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak Coach takes over from Umar Abdul Rabi and is expected to be in charge when Medeama face Legon Cities in Accra on the opening weekend of the new season.

This is Duncan’s first job since being fired as Black Stars assistant coach in September 2021.

“We are delighted that David has joined us for a year and hopefully we can enjoy further years of success with him. He is a top-notch coach, who has an eye for youth development as well and that excites us,” Medeama president Moses Armah said.

“We are happy with his vision for the club, his drive and determination to achieve success for the team. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration with him to put the club at the apex of Ghanaian and African football.”

Duncan added; “It’s a great privilege and honour, equally excited by the challenge ahead. I am aware of the history of this great club and the passion of the fans. I am determined to develop a team capable of delivering success in Tarkwa.”

Duncan has previously managed Great Olympics, Sekondi Hasaacas, AshantiGold, Hearts of Oak, and Asante Kotoko.

He also had a brief stint with Free State Stars in South Africa.
