Akufo-Addo won over 140 constituencies in 2020 – Ex-MP

A former Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer had no case in the election petition filed after the 2020 elections.

Joseph Dindiok Kpemka said the two parties failed to prove their case in Court despite being given the chance.

The former MP for Tempane Constituency made these remarks following insinuations by John Dramani Mahama and the NDC that they were not given a fair hearing by the Supreme Court.

This conviction led to the former president ruling out ever going to court to seek justice on Election results.

“NDC must man the polling station, they must man the collation centres, make sure the pink sheets are correct, make sure we get the right results and everything because maybe someone else will be flagbearer. They will choose Supreme Court but if I become flagbearer I am not going to the Supreme Court,” he stated in an interview on Wednesday, September 8 on Moonlite FM in Sunyani.

But speaking on TV3 and 3FM‘s The Keypoints on Saturday, September 11, Mr Dindiok Kpemka said with the number of votes that the election petitioner was contesting at the Supreme Court, he and his party would have still lost the elections if they were granted those votes.

“Clearly they have not been able to prove that genuinely they won elections and it was taken from them. By the facts that were presented by the Electoral Commission and the circumstances on the ground, they lost,” he stressed.

“Are you aware that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo won over 140 seats in the country by the Presidential votes and lost some of those ones in the Parliamentary to the NDC?” he quizzed host Dzifa Gbeho-Bampoh.

He cited how the Central Region, for instance, was overwhelmingly won by President Akufo-Addo but the NPP lost some key seats in the Parliamentary polls.

But Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini, who was also on the weekend news analysis programme, insisted that Mr Mahama also scooped constituencies the NPP won.

“John Mahama too won some constituencies that we lost to the NPP.”

Therefore, he claimed Mr Dindiok Kpemka’s argument cannot be tenable and that the NDC felt shortchanged by the Supreme Court verdict.
