Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s motorcade was involved in a crash that left a number of people injured Friday night in Simi Valley, California.
The accident happened just after the motorcade left the Ronald Reagan presidential library where Trudeau had given an address touting the benefits of the North American Free Trade deal.
California Highway Patrol confirmed that one of their officers was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Sgt. Kevin Orr of CHP told the reporter pool following Trudeau, including CBC News, that officers attempted to stop a vehicle making a left turn, but were unable to do so and the vehicle and a motorcycle officer collided.
Local broadcaster KABC reported that two other people, a woman and her son who were in an SUV that was hit after turning left in front of the motorcade, were also taken to a Los Angeles-area hospital.
KABC said Trudeau was not injured, and that his motorcade continued on its way.
We spoke with the husband of the woman who was hit by a CHP motorcycle officer in Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s motorcade. He says she injured her neck, their son may have broken his wrist. Both are in the hospital, as is the officer. Hear the interview at 11 @ABC7 pic.twitter.com/khIiMG4G7p
