NFL – The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly

This was a very exciting weekend. Donald Trump continued his criticism of Nfl Players who have refused to stand for the national anthem. These comments only encouraged more players to protest (I believe by design, see “The Bad” below).

The Good

Not all NFL players felt comfortable not standing for our anthem. The hero of the day yesterday was Alejandro Villanueva, the lone member of the Pittsburgh Steelers to stand out on the field for the National Anthem while the rest of the team remained in the locker room. His jersey sales are now through the roof.

The Bad

The NFL owners state they are supporters of free speech and support the right of the players to “express themselves” .

President Trump’s remarks were divisive and disrespectful to the entire NFL community, but we tried to use them as an opportunity to further unify our team and our organization. Our players have the freedom to express themselves in a respectful and thoughtful manner and we all agreed that our sole message is to provide and to promote an environment that is focused on love and equality. – Buffalo Bills Owners Owners Terry and Kim Pegula

It is interesting to note that although players can “express themselves” by disrespecting the flag, country, and fans, this support does not apply to other methods and causes, such as wearing cleats in remembrance of the victims of 9/11.  Now, although the sheer number of players, teams, coaches, and owners disrespecting our flag is a bad thing, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I believe Trump knows average Americans are sick of these players complaining about how awful our country is which is why he sent those Tweets. They took the bait and now making it clear to the world where they stand when it comes to supporting their country and their fans. The fans are revolting and threatening to boycott the NFL on a grand scale and these players will eventually realize that they are nothing more than entertainers and biting the hand that feed you (the fans) will not end well for the league.

The Ugly

From Fox Sports,

Over the last 20 years, the American public has spent more than $7 billion dollars to build or renovate NFL stadiums, taking on 46 percent of the total costs of those projects.

Hey, NFL…we want our money back.
