World Intellectual Property Day

World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated annually on 26 April. Events organized to mark the Day seek to inform about the role of intellectual property rights in encouraging innovation and creativity.

This year’s theme is , ‘Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity,’ celebrating the “can do” attitude of women inventors, creators, and entrepreneurs around the world and their ground-breaking work. The establishment of World Intellectual Property Day was initiated by the Director-General of the National Algerian Institute for Industrial Property (INAPI). The day creates awareness of copyright, trademarks, and patents. These are laws and registrations that protect the original work of creators and innovators. This can include writers, artists, inventors, and brands that help to make sure that creators have the right to own their work. Intellectual property regulations help to encourage more development.

It is important to have intellectual property regulations to prevent the theft of original work promoting the notion that creators should have full ownership of their inventions. Every year, the U.S. loses about $225 billion to $600 billion to intellectual property theft. These regulations help protect the creators and country from losing financially.
