Mayor Eric Adams welcomed Serbia’s Consul General in NYC, Vladimir Bozovic, to City Hall on Monday for a meeting centered on community engagement. Both leaders reflected on the successful inaugural Day of Serbian Heritage in New York, held on February 26th earlier this year.
Bozovic praised Mayor Adams for his “exceptional gesture” in recognizing the vibrant Serbian community in New York City, an initiative warmly embraced by Serbian-Americans.
In discussing avenues for cultural collaboration between the City of New York and the Serbian-American community, Bozovic underscored the importance of initiatives that highlight iconic figures such as Nikola Tesla and promote various community activities of significant historical value for both nations.
During the meeting, Consul General Bozovic provided an update on the ongoing reconstruction of the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sava at 20 West 26th Street, post the 2016 fire incident. He conveyed the Serbian Orthodox Church and community’s willingness to engage with the city administration for the comprehensive restoration of this culturally significant landmark in New York.
EXPO 2027: Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All
Consul General Bozovic invited Mayor Adams to visit Serbia and extended an invitation for New York City to participate in the Expo 2027 themed “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.”
He also conveyed the interest of Serbian IT companies in opening their American branches in New York.
Mayor Eric Adams thanked Consul General Bozovic for his engagement and cooperation. He
reiterated the commitment of New York City to establish partnership with the Serbian
community. He praised the contribution of the expats to the cultural
identity of the city and expressed the desire to explore further opportunities for joint engagement.
Adams, according to the readout, expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit Serbia and expressed willingness to include the visit to Serbia in his upcoming European tour.
At the end of the meeting, Consul General Bozovic signed the New York City Hall honorary guest book.
