Biden’s Lighthearted Moment With Press At Irish President’s Residence

DUBLIN—At 12:07 pm IST, President Biden arrived at the Irish president’s residence, where he greeted President Michael Higgins with pleasantries and handshakes. The White House confirmed that President Biden has previously visited Áras an Uachtaráin, first as Vice President in 2016 and later in 2017.

After posing for photos, the two leaders entered the residence at 12:08 pm. Biden looked sharp in a blue suit with a horizontally striped green tie that perfectly complemented the surroundings.

Inside, the press was led to a room where a desk with an open book, likely a guestbook, was placed.

President Biden signed the guestbook at the Irish president’s residence at 12:16 pm IST, taking a few minutes to write a lengthy note.

Upon finishing, he turned to Irish President Higgins and quoted his grandfather, saying “Your feet will bring you to where your heart is.” When asked by reporters what his most Irish characteristic was, Biden responded, “I’m not going to presume. I’ll let others make that judgment.”

“As the Irish saying goes, your feet will bring you to where your heart is… and it’s an honor to return and to come home to the home of my ancestors,” Biden said.

“I think the most Irish word used in my family is dignity,” he added, jokingly saying, “I’m not going home.” Before leaving, Biden turned to the press and quipped, “All you American reporters, it’s just like the White House, right?”

Biden did not respond to a question about the Pentagon leaks.
