In an exclusive revelation, Ursula Von Der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, shared with The Pavlovic Today that she and President Biden had a brief discussion on the EU-led Serbia-Kosovo dialogue during their meeting in the Oval Office 

“We briefly touched upon the topic,” revealed Ursula Von Der Leyen mere minutes after the meeting with President Biden concluded.

When pressed about the anticipated high-level meeting between Serbia’s President Vucic and Kosovo’s PM Kurti, which is set to take place on March 18 in Ohrid, North Macedonia, and will be presided over by Josep Borell, Ursula Von Der Leyen emphasized the importance of persisting with the dialogue despite the lingering issues.

“It is very important that Serbia-Kosovo dialogue continues. It is not easy; there are many issues still to be solved, but it is moving in the right direction,” remarked Von der Leyen, highlighting the dialogue’s strong backing from the US. She expressed “full support on both our sides for that dialogue.”

Von der Leyen’s message for President Vucic and PM Kurti was succinct. “There is a good plan on the table, there’s a roadmap for how to get there, so we expect and hope for both [parties] to be very constructive” she urged.

Earlier this week, Ned Price, speaking on behalf of Secretary Blinken, told The Pavlovic Today that the United States supports the EU Proposal for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, and wants it to result in “mutual recognition” eventually.

The upcoming round of high-level talks between Serbia and Kosovo in Ohrid will focus on implementing the EU proposal. The Serbian side wants the implementation of the Association of the Serb Majority Municipalities to be the first item on the agenda.
