Boris Johnson soon to find out if the Partygate scandal has killed his career

“The threshold of 15% of the Parliamentary party seeking a Vote of confidence in the Prime Minister has been passed therefore a vote of confidence will take place within the rules of the 1922 Committee,” announced Sir Graham Brady in London this morning. “That vote will take place this evening in the House of Commons between six and eight o’clock, and we will announce the result shortly thereafter.”

PM Boris Johnson will face a no-confidence vote on his leadership this evening, after four days of celebration for the Queens Platinum Jubilee. If he loses, he will stand down as Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister will address MPs to try to win them around at 4 pm behind closed doors. Johnson “welcomes the opportunity to make his case to MPs,” and the vote is “a chance to end months of speculation,” claims his Spokesperson.

Downing Street continues with the narrative that is a “Remainer plot,” but MP Andrew Bridgen explained why they are wrong and how the party’s mood has shifted.

David Davis said that his concerns were over Partygate and a “demonstration of the integrity of government.”

Andrew Bridgen said, “I don’t think you can be in charge of setting the rules during lockdown and then blatantly allowing people under your direct leadership to break those laws.”

Former Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the electorate no longer trusted the party today’s decision meant to “change or lose.”

Moore than 80 MPs have publicly said that they did not lose the confidence in Johnson. Cabinet members Sajid Javid, Liz Truss, and Dominic Raab are backing the Prime Minister.

“I think he will deliver for this country and go on to win a general election with an ambitious programme for continuous improvements,” said Javid.

“I will be backing the Prime Minister, and I think the majority of Conservative MPs will do as well because I think our constituents want us to get on with that job,” said Dominic Raab.

Speaking about his decision to lose confidence in Johnson, John Penrose said that “none of the good things he has done necessarily justified breaking the Ministerial Code, which he himself has said is one of the underpinnings of good government and integrity in government in this country.”

If Boris Johnson survives the no-confidence vote tonight, and at least 180 MPs vote in his favor, he will remain the leader of the Conservatives and the UK’s Prime Minister.

The result of the no-confidence vote is expected at 9 pm local time.
