Voting Is Underway In Local Elections In The UK

Millions are voting in high-stakes local elections in the UK today. In England, 146 councils are up for elections today. In Scotland and Wales, all council areas are holding elections, and in Northern Ireland, voters are casting their ballots to elect the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Accompanied by his dog Dilyn, PM Boris Johnson voted at Methodist Central Hall in Westminster. Observers said the Prime Minister was in a good mood. He said that he voted for the Conservatives as “the Conservatives, deliver.”

Accompanied by his wife, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer voted in the Camden.”Today is our chance to send the Tories a message they can’t ignore: Britain deserves better,” said Starmer.

The Liberal Democrat leader, Sir Ed Davey, arrived at a polling station in southwest London.

Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland, voted by mail but was present at a polling station in Glasgow.

The last time current council seats were up for elections was in 2018. YouGov released projections for 16 Key Battleground Councils ahead of the vote.

Polls will close tonight at 10 pm local time. The first results of the local elections in the UK are expected to arrive at midnight.
