President Trump Pardoned Turkey Drumstick In the Rose Garden

President Trump pardoned turkey Drumstick in the Rose Garden.

On Tuesday, November 21, 2017, in front of the members of the press and his guests, President Trump pardoned his first turkey, Drumstick, in the Rose Garden.

At 1:05 pm, President Trump, and the First Lady emerged from the Oval Office with their son Baron and made their way to the podium in the Rose Garden. POTUS wore an overcoat and a candy-cane pink tie.

As the First Family appeared, the invited guests in the first rows pointed their phone cameras at them. Some of the guests present were  Jared and Ivanka, Arabella,  Tiffany, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders and   Don McGahn, the current White House Counsel and Assistant to the President.

Trump noted that it has been 70 years since the National Turkey Federation first presented a turkey “to President Harry Truman, who, I might add did not grant the pardon. He refused. He was a tough cookie.” The crowd laughed, Drumstick let out a gobble. “Today, I’m going to be a much nicer president.”

President Trump noted that Drumstick and his alternate, Wishbone, would join Tater and Tot – the final turkeys to receive pardons from President Obama.

“As many of you know, I have been very active in overturning a number of executive actions by my predecessor. However, I have been informed by the White House Counsel’s Office that Tater and Tot’s pardons cannot under any circumstances be revoked. So we’re not going to revoke them. So Tater and Tot, you can rest easy,” President Trump joked.

The president also paid tribute to members of the armed forces, police, and first responders  and described Thanksgiving as a time of healing for the “national family.”

“As we gather together with our families on Thanksgiving, and give thanks for our many blessings, we are reminded of the national family to which we all belong as citizens of this incredible country. This Thursday, as we give thanks for our cherished loved ones, let us also renew our bonds of trust, loyalty and affection between our fellow citizens as members of a proud national family of Americans.”

President Trump and his family will be spending the Thanksgiving in Palm Beach.
