Trump’s Visit To The UK Is Expected To Be Announced

A source close to No.10 told The Pavlovic Today that Trump’s visit to the UK  is expected to be announced.

In January 2017, more than 1.8 million people signed an official U.K. petition to prevent President Trump from making a State Visit to the U.K. To that, the government responded by stating: “HM Government believes the President of the United States should be extended the full courtesy of a State Visit. We look forward to welcoming President Trump once dates and arrangements are finalized.”

While the source close to No.10 told The Pavlovic Today that Trump’s visit to the UK will be announced “as soon as tomorrow”, it is still unclear whether this will be a State Visit by the invitation of Queen Elizabeth, or just a political visit between Trump and the Prime Minister Theresa May.

Trump’s visit to the UK  will put pressure on stalled Brexit negotiations

The upcoming announcement about the Trump’s visit to the UK  is the follow-up to the visit of Theresa May who was the first foreign leader to meet Trump as president.

In the eyes of Britain, Trump’s visit is coming in the right time to strengthen the position of the UK in the negotiations to leave the EU as the UK will be looking to use this opportunity to make overtures regarding a free trade deal with America. The US is the largest single investor in the U.K. and this investment is worth roughly $187 billion.

Trump’s visit to the UK means an opportunity for talks regarding a future trade deal

In a Joint Statement during her visit to Washington D.C. in January 2017,  Theresa May stated that she was convinced “that a trade deal between the U.S. and the UK is in the national interest of both countries and will cement the crucial relationship that exists between us, particularly as the UK leaves the European Union and reaches out to the world.”

At the G20, President Trump met again with the British PM Theresa May, and insisted that a UK-US trade deal is forthcoming and will be “a very powerful deal”. When asked about the visit during G20 meeting,  President Trump confirmed that he will eventually be going to the UK, saying “I will be going to London.”

The fact that Trump is finally making a visit to the UK means that there will be an opportunity for talks regarding a future trade deal, which will put pressure on the EU in negotiations with the UK over Brexit. The Trump visit will put pressure on the stalled Brexit negotiation, as UK may go with the US for an alternative trade deal.
