Lok Sabha elections: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee challenges BJP to cross 200 mark

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday challenged BJP led NDA’s target of winning 400 plus seats in the Lok Sabha elections. She asked the saffron party to win at least 200 constituencies.

The Trinamool Congress chief also reaffirmed her refusal to allow the enforcement of the Citizenship Amendment Act in the state and warned the people that applying for CAA would turn an applicant into a foreigner and urged them not to apply for it.

While campaigning for Trinamool Congress candidate Mahua Moitra in the Krishnanagar area, Mamata Banerjee said that in the 2021 West Bengal assembly polls, BJP aimed for 200 plus seats but had to stop at 77. She added that some of these 77 have since joined her party.

Referring to the BJP as a ‘jumla’ party, the West Bengal Chief Minister accused them of peddling lies regarding the CAA, stating Modi’s guarantee on CAA is a zero guarantee. She said that the CAA is a trap to turn legal citizens into foreigners. She remarked that once CAA is implemented, NRC will follow. She further affirmed that she will neither allow CAA nor NRC in West Bengal.

Speaking to the Matua community, who are expected to benefit most from the implementation of the CAA, Mamata Banerjee urged the community to have faith in her, stating that she would never allow anyone to snatch their citizenship.

Praising Mahua Moitra for her fight against the BJP, CM Mamata Banerjee said that despite Mahua Moitra being elected by the people, she was expelled unceremoniously. She added that the party had again re-nominated her from this seat and that the voters have to ensure her victory with a record margin. CM Banerjee mentioned that Mahua Moitra was expelled as she was most vocal against the BJP in parliament.

In addition, Mamata Banerjee also criticized the opposition bloc INDIA partners, CPI(M) and Congress for joining hands with the BJP in West Bengal. She said that there is no INDIA alliance in West Bengal.
