17 year old Veer Shah was performing Garba dance during Navratri  celebrations in Gujarat’s Kapadvanj Khedha district when he suddenly complained of dizziness and became unresponsive. He was immediately taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

According to doctors, the teenager died after suffering sudden cardiac arrests while playing garba. Dr Ayush Patel, MD Medicine said  a team of volunteers immediately attended to him. Cardio-respiratory resuscitation say he monitored his vitals but found no pulse. The doctor said there was no reponse and no sign of respiration.

He was given three cycles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). He was shifted to a hospital by ambulance. But he was declared dead at the hospital. Veer Shah was among the 10 persons who died while doing garba during Navratri Celebrations in Gujarat in the span of 24 hours. A number of similar incidents have been reported in the state with victims as young as 13 year old boy Dabhoi, Baroda.

Other casualties include a 28 year old Ravi Panchal from Ahmedabad who suddenly collapsed while playing garba. He died on Friday night and a 55 year old Shanker Rana who also died while dancing to the tunes in Vadodara.

According to reports the 108 emergency services in Gujarat have received 521calls for heart related issues. About 609 calls have been recieved  for breathlessness over the next five six  days of Navratri. Most of these were received between 6pm and 2 am, when the garba celebrations take place.

The sudden increase in heart related issues has prompted both the government as well as the event organizers to take swift action at the earliest. The Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel led government has asked all community health centres and government hospitals near Garba venues to be on high alert. Garba organizers have been asked to maintain special corridors for movement of ambulances in case of emergencies.
