12 persons are dead and 23 others have been injured when a Speeding Minibus Hit a container on Sunday on Samruddhi Expressway in Maharshtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district formerly known as Aurangangabad, police said. According to reports a total of 35 passengers were travelling on the mini bus.

The Accident took place about 12:30 am in Vaijapur area of the expressway in the district. The area where the accident took place is about 350 km from Mumbai. As a result The bus hit the container from the rear side. Twelve persons have died in the accident which includes a minor girl, six women and 5 men. 23 persons have been injured in the accident who had been admitted to a government hospital.

According to reports the mini bus was carrying pilgrims from Nashik to Baba Teerth pilgrimage site in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. The accident took place when the pilgrims were returning to Nashik after the darshan. 17 persons injured in the accident are being treated at the Valley Hospital in Aurangabad, the remaning six persons have been sent to the rural hospital in Vaijapur for treatment.

The police said the tempo driver sustained injuries in the accident. He said the truck was coming from the opposite side and had a headon collision with the mini bus. The people injured in  the accident were rushed to Aurangabad and Vaijapur. The condition of some of the injured is said to critical.

A case has been registered in the accident and further invitations are underway. Maharashtra Chief Minister has expressed grief over the incident. He has even announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the persons who had died in the accident. An enquiry has been ordered by the Maharashtra Chief minister into the incident.
