On National Cinema Day, ticket sales for Shah Rukh Khan’s film Jawan skyrocketed, reviving the movie’s box office success.

Following a few days of steady revenues of Rs 70 to Rs 80 lakh, Jawan had a remarkable surge, making Rs 5 crore on National Cinema Day. Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that the movie’s domestic net receipts came in at Rs 632.24 crore. The Atlee-directed movie had a 61.53 percent Hindi occupancy rate as of October 13.

After five weeks of release in theatres, the movie had a spike in box office revenue on October 13, when several multiplexes dropped their ticket rates to Rs 99 in honour of National Cinema Day.

With a total revenue of around Rs 1125.20 crores, Red Chillies Entertainment claims that the movie has become the “highest-grossing Hindi film in the history of cinema.

With its September 7 release, Jawan broke and set a number of milestones, including those set by Shah Rukh Khan’s previous film Pathaan, which took in Rs 543 crore in India and Rs 1043 crore worldwide. Jawan outperformed these numbers in terms of earnings in India and worldwide. Still holding the top slot, though, is Aamir Khan, whose movie Dangal brought in over Rs 2000 crores.

Jawan, which starred Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, and Deepika Padukone in major parts, broke box office records in India with a Rs 75 crore opening day haul.

Jawan remained a popular movie at the box office despite the debut of new films like Mission Raniganj, The Vaccine War, Fukrey 3, and Thank You For Coming. Fukrey 3 earned Rs 5.25 crore on Friday, showing strong performance as well. Mission Raniganj, starring Akshay Kumar, brought in Rs 5 crore as well.

Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki, which is scheduled for release around Christmas, is Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming movie.
