Asian Games 2023: Neeraj Chopra wins gold, Kishore Kumar Jena takes silver in Javelin

India’s star Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra with his greatest throw wins the gold Medal with a tremendous distance of 88.88 metres, while Kishore Jena takes home the silver with a throw that reaches 87.54 metres.

However, due to a technical glitch that occurred during the men’s javelin event at the Asian Games 2023, Chopra’s first throw was not recorded by the organisers.

Neeraj appeared to be in excellent form as he executed a huge throw on his very first try and appeared to have comfortably surpassed the 85-meter barrier. Neeraj was requested to retake the throw when the event management were confused because they were unable to accurately measure the throw owing to a technological issue. Neeraj’s first official try was for 82.38 metres, and he then made an even better attempt for 84.49 metres.

What a five-year cycle it has been for the Indian javelin throw ace since Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in the same event at the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018. The Indian javelin throwing prodigy is the current Olympic and world champion going into Hangzhou 2023.

The Asian Games have not been without controversy up to this point, as Jyothi Yarraji’s Bronze Medal in the women’s 110m hurdles event was changed to silver after she was first disqualified.

Meanwhile, Manju Rani and Ram Baboo, two race walkers from India, earned the bronze medal in the 35-kilometer mixed team event on October 4. In the compound archery mixed team competition the following day, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Pravin Ojas Deotale took home the gold medal. In squash mixed doubles, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh finished their career with a bronze medal. Parveen Hooda, a boxer, finished her career with a bronze medal.

Harmilan Bains of India put on a strong performance to win silver in the women’s 800 m race and earn her second medal of the Asian Games 2023. India has maintained its 4th position by winning 18 gold, 31 silver and 32 bronze medal till now in the Asian Games.
