Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge slammed the Central government over the One Nation One Election push and wanted to turn India into a dictatorship. Kharge wrote on X ( formerly Twitter) the push to form a committee on One Nation and One election is a way for dismantling the Fedral structure of India.

Kharge raised questions about the policy and said this idea has been extensively examined and rejected by three committees in the past. The Congress leader inquired if this huge exercise unilaterally be undertaken without consulting the political parties at the state level and international level. Kharge further added for the people of India only have One Nation, One solution to get rid of BJP misrule in 2024.

Earlier Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the One nation one election push of the government. Gandhi said INDIA is a union of states , the idea of one nation, one election is an attack on the Union and all its states. The Law ministry on Saturday notified the formation of a committee to look into one nation One Election push put forth by the Modi government. Leaders including Home Minister Amit Shah, leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congess leader Adhir RAnjan Chowdhary, Former Lok Sabha general secretary Subhash Kashyap, former chairman of 15^th Finance Commission NK Singh and others will be part of the committee.

The panel will examine and recommend simultaeneous panchayat elections, municipalities, state legislative assemblies, municipalities and Lok Sabha elections keeping in mind the existing framework under the constitution and other statutory provisions. But politics has erupted over the move with Congress leader of Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowhdhary refusing to join the panel. Aam Aadmi Party Leader Sourabh Bharadwaj told the media it looked like the central government is afraid. He said the BJP government wants to win the 2024 elections anyhow.
