Delhi Metro records 68.16 lakh commuters in a single day, DMRC says historic milestone

Around 68.16 lakh commuters travelled in Delhi Metro on Monday, August 28. According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), this is the highest count of daily commuters during the timespan before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per the officials concerned to the matter, the previous highest recorded count of passengers travelled in one day was lodged at 66,18,717 on February 10, 2020. Officials further noted that the ridership surges on Raksha Bandhan, but this year it happened a few days earlier. 

Issuing a statement, the DMRC hailed that it has achieved a historic milestone by registering an unprecedented 68.16 lakh passenger journeys on Monday. It added that this phenomenon marked the highest ever daily passenger journeys recorded before or after the onset of COVID-19 pandemic.

The DMRC in its statement continued that this is a remarkable milestone and it followed after a period of challenges and reflects the resilience and trust of the Delhi-NCR citizens in the world class transportation system provided by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. 

Speaking about the achievement, the official stated that this is a testament to the efforts of Delhi Metro’s dedicated staff and the support of Delhi-NCR residents. They added that this is also a commitment towards providing safe, efficient, and eco-friendly transportation services.

The DMRC mentioned that they continue to prioritise passenger safety and comfort while improving connectivity throughout the National Capital Region. The Metro Rail Corporation added that this milestone underscores the mission to provide accessible, reliable and sustainable transportation solutions. 

On May 3, DMRC Chief Vikas Kumar addressed the 29th foundation day of the corporation at the Metro Bhawan in the national capital and asserted that the Delhi Metro has responded to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 with agility and resilience and that the ridership stood around 90 per cent of the pre-COVID level.
