Superstar Rajinikanth meets BMTC bus drivers, remembers his days as a bus conductor

On Tuesday, superstar Rajinikanth, hailing from the world of Kollywood, pleasantly surprised everyone with an unannounced visit to depot number 4 of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) in Karnataka. This depot holds a special significance for him, as it’s where he once worked as a conductor before his acting career took off. During his visit, he spent a brief period of time engaging with the BMTC drivers and other staff members at Jayanagar.

Shivaji Rao Gaikwad, who later adopted the screen name Rajinikanth, had previously served as a bus conductor at this very place in Bengaluru until he was 22 years old. As he stepped into the depot on that Tuesday, the personnel from the Traffic Transit Management Centre (TTMC) warmly welcomed the actor, gathering around him. Rajinikanth’s heart seemed to be filled with nostalgia as he shared anecdotes from his past experiences. He engaged in conversations with the staff, shared moments of camaraderie, and even took selfies to commemorate the occasion.

During his visit to Bengaluru, the Jailer protagonist interacted warmly with the staff members, taking a moment to captured selfies with them. He reminisced about his earlier days as a bus conductor, serving on the crew of the 10A route of the BTMC. The interaction wasn’t limited to just bus drivers and conductors; even BTMC officials engaged with the superstar, seizing the opportunity to capture snapshots with him.

In addition to his depot visit, Rajinikanth also made a stop at the Raghavendra Swami Math in Bengaluru. His deep devotion to Raghavendra Swami is well-known, and he portrayed the revered figure as Sri Raghavendrar in a Kollywood movie. It’s worth noting that Rajinikanth had spent a considerable part of his early years living and working in Bengaluru. He was employed as a conductor with the Bangalore Transport Services (BTC) before embarking on his journey to Chennai to pursue his acting ambitions. It was in Chennai that the legendary Tamil director, the late K Balachander, discovered him and granted him his first major role in the successful film Aboorva Ragangal in 1975.
