Amrit Bharat Station: PM Narendra Modi launches Rs 25000 crore project scheme to redevelop 508 railway stations across country

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched around Rs 25,000 crore project under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme on Sunday for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across different states/union territories in India.  

During the event, PM Modi said, approximately 1300 significant railway stations in India will be transformed into Amrit Bharat Railway Stations with a modern touch. 508 of these stations will undergo redevelopment starting today, with an estimated cost of 25,000 Crores.

Modern railway stations will give a boost to tourism and economic activities. The government has also launched the One Station, One Product scheme which will benefit workers and craftsmen, along with the branding of the district, says PM Modi

Every Amrit station will be a symbol of the city’s aspirations and India’s ancient heritage, said PM Modi. He added this year, Railways has received a budget of more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore, which is five times more than the budget allocated in 2014 after laying the foundation stone of 508 railway station redevelopment projects.

This government has given priority to the expansion of railways in the North East. All state capitals of North East will be connected by a rail network soon, said PM Modi. PM Modi’s aim is to make Indian railways modern as well as environment-friendly. In the next few years, all railway tracks will be electrified and trains will run on electricity, PM Modi further added.

Vinai Kumar Saxena speaks after PM Modi laid the foundation stone of 508 railway station redevelopment projects. He said there is a need to change with time. When these railway stations will be redeveloped, it will give opportunities to local people and products.

According to Prime Minister’s Office, 508 railway stations spread across 27 states and union territories will be revamped under the Amrit Bharat Scheme. These stations will be developed as city centres with integrations on both sides of the city.

The list of stations to be redeveloped include 55 in Uttar Pradesh, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 each in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 each in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana and 13 in Karnataka.
