Uttar Pradesh: Two minors forced to drink urine over suspicion of theft

In a deeply troubling event in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district, two young boys were allegedly subjected to drinking urine and the application of chili powder to their private areas as a response to suspected theft. Six individuals have been arrested in connection to this incident.

A video that has gone viral on social media, originating from Thana Pathra Bazaar, depicts distressing actions inflicted upon two underage individuals. Following the widespread circulation of the video, legal cases have been registered under relevant statutes. The authorities have successfully detained six individuals involved in the occurrence, and they are slated to appear in court.

The incident came to public attention on Saturday after it was shared within WhatsApp groups maintained by college students. A vigilant police constable, who was part of the group, promptly notified superiors. Subsequently, a police team, led by the cyber unit, launched an investigation. The victims, aged 10 and 15, are depicted in the video consuming urine from a bottle. The video captures a group of men subjecting the boys to verbal abuse and threats of physical harm if they did not comply.

The boys were purportedly apprehended for stealing money. In an unrelated incident, on July 31, a separate 15-year-old boy was allegedly subjected to physical assault and paraded naked in Shimla. This event occurred after he was reportedly caught stealing chips from a store in the Rohru town of Himachal Pradesh. The minor hailed from an economically disadvantaged Nepalese family.

Regarding the aforementioned incident, Sub Inspector of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi stated that multiple individuals have been charged under Sections 341 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 342, and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Additionally, the men are facing charges under Section 14 of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, based on a formal complaint submitted by the boy’s father.
