Yamuna floods trend on Twitter as commuters share visuals from affected areas | Watch

Almost after a few decades, the Yamuna touched the Red Fort. The Yamuna water level exceeded 208.48 metres on Thursday morning and is likely to peak around 4pm. Multiple areas of the city are reeling under flood and waterlogging as the water level continues to rise following heavy rainfall and the release of water from Hathnikund Barrage. According to reports, the national capital recorded a rapid increase in Yamuna water level in the last few days. The Delhi police has imposed section 144 CrPC as a precautionary measure in the flood-prone areas in the capital.

As the Yamuna river overflowed and made its way through the lanes of the national capital, commuters have shared videos and photos of the flooded roads. A visual shared by a Twitter user showed that the Yamuna water has filled both the side roads of Delhi’s Kashmere Gate Ring Road. Another visual showed the waterlogged condition of Delhi’s busy Bhairon Marg at the moment. Hospitals are also not spared from this adverse weather condition. A visual shared by a Twitter user showed Sant Parmananad Hospital, Civil Lines Delhi completely submerged. 

Another video from Delhi’s Hakikat Nagar shows people shifting from their residence to safer places as the water level is increasing constantly. Further visuals shows Yamuna market completely submerged and all other roads leading to the market completely submerged. Sharing the video, the Twitter user mentioned that the condition of Delhi became very bad at that time. Another user expressed that the River Yamuna in Delhi looks very dangerous. Even animals are reeling under the floods in Delhi, a visual from Garib Gaushala at Kashmere Gate shows cattle half drowned in the waterlogged area. 

Another social media user shared visuals from behind the Red Fort which shows the roads completely inundated with water. An aerial visual of Delhi – NCR shows flooded streets all around  with houses submerged.

While Yamuna floods caused a lot of trouble for the people of the national capital, many believe that the Yamuna is now flowing in its own course. Sharing multiple visulas from several affected areas, a twitter user wrote that Rive Yamuna took it for decades, people’s encroachment, filth and indifference. However, today the mighty Yamuna is out to reclaim her flood plains, course, might and dignity. She further added that Yamuna brought one of the most advanced cities to its knees. 

As per latest reports, Signature Bridge has also been closed for traffic owing to floods in Yamuna. Furthermore, there has been a long jam from Gokulpuri to Bhajanpura.
