Now that a Gujarati variation of the Panipuri called Kadhi Panipuri has been on the scene, even the humble Panipuri has succumbed to this gastronomic frenzy.

The combination has undoubtedly generated a wave of online revulsion and attracted no takers.

An Ahmedabad restaurant that deviated from the traditional Panipuri experience was included in a viral video posted by the Instagram account @foodiepopcorn. This restaurant serves the puris with Gujarati Kadhi, a thick stew or soup made from gram flour and sour yogurt, instead of the traditional pani which is prepared with mint, coriander, green chilies, etc., and is often offered with puris. Although Kadhi is usually eaten with roti or rice, offering it as panipuri disgusted online viewers.

People expressed their displeasure at this culinary invention and came together to defend their favourite Panipuri. Demands such as Panipuri should be spared and Justice for Panipuri inundated the comments section. One review even mentioned that the restaurant served Panipuri in eight different flavours, with this one being known as Rajwadi chaas (sweet buttermilk). He said, is there really buttermilk in Panipuri?

Meanwhile, attention has been drawn to such strange Panipuri combinations before also. In the past, a popular video featured a street vendor selling banana Panipuri in Gujarat. The vendor used bananas rather than boiled potatoes. He was shown in the video peeling bananas and combining them with chickpeas, herbs, and coriander leaves to produce a distinctive variant. This strange combination also brought a huge outrage online as people were not happy with the strange combination.
