The principal of a DY Patil High School in Talegaon Dabhade town of Maharashtra’s Pune district was beaten up allegedly by members of a right-wing outfit after parents of some students complained that a CCTV camera was installed in the toilet of girl students.

According to police, the incident that took place on Tuesday, the parents in their complaint given to police alleged the school installed a CCTV camera in the girl’s toilet, the school also conducted prayers from the Bible and refused to give holidays to students on Hindu festivals, Talegaon MIDC police inspector Ranjit Sawant said.

The mob alleged that students were forced to sing a Christian prayer at the morning assembly every day. The prayer that started with Oh Lord, the parents claimed it to be a verse from the Bible. However, there is nothing in the prayer suggesting conversion or any reference to the Bible, Sawant added.

The police inspector stated that authorities have been investigating the incident based on a complaint filed by a parent.

The video of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms. The video showcased the principal, whose clothes were torn, being chased by a mob in the school premises.

The police officer said that police have been looking into the matter as parents of some students made the allegations against the school authority.

Following the complaint from the parents, members of a right-wing outfit allegedly targeted the school principal, who is a Christian, police said.

The parents also claimed that a CCTV was installed in the girl’s toilet and that an attempt was being made to expose students to Christian culture, police added.

When police asked for the school’s statement about the allegations made by the parents of the student, they denied commenting on the matter. The school has not filed an official complaint. The police assured to take strict action in the matter.
