Four people died and nearly 80 people suffered injuries after two speeding private buses collided head on with each other at Pattampakkam in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu on Monday morning. As per police official, a bus from Cuddalore to Panruti and another bus from Panruti to Cuddalore collided head on head at Pattampakkam. 

Primary inquiries revealed that the tyre of the bus proceeding to Panruti burst and therefore the driver could not control the vehicle, leading to the collision with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. According to reports, four people were crushed to death and 80 passengers from both buses sustained serious injuries.

A team of policemen and patrol team hurried to the spot and rescued the Injured with the aid of the locals. The injured were taken to the Cuddalore Government General Hospital immediately. The condition of a few injured were declared to be critical and they were referred to the Government General Hospital in Puducherry.  Sources in the Cuddalore police told the media that the exact reason behind the accident is not clear yet and that it will be known only after speaking to those involved in the accident.

Later, the police team recovered the dead bodies from the accident spot and sent them to Cuddalore Government General Hospital for postmortem. Reports claim that the front portion of the two buses were completely ripped off when the collision took place. 

Cuddalore district collector A Arun Thamburaj, superintendent of police R Rajaram, MLAs Glyappan and Velmurugan reached the Cuddalore Government hospital after the accident took place. They consoled the people who were injured and were undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The state government led by M. K. Stalin declared a solatium of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased, Rs 50,000 to the people who suffered critical injuries and Rs 25,000 to people who sustained minor injuries.
