India’s World Test Championship final loss to Australia at the Oval has come as wake up call for India. Harbhajan Singh slammed the team mangement questioning the need for spin friendly pitches in India. He said that the spin friendly conditions hampered India’s preparation for big matches especially in pace friendly conditions.

Australia made history by defeating India at the Oval and becoming the first ever team to clinch all major ICC trophies. Australia clinched their World test Championship 2023 title on Sunday at the Oval, London. India was all out for 234 in 63.3 overs while chasing 444, with Mohammad Shami was not out on 13(8)*.

Harbhajan further added that India should make a habit to work hard on all five days. He said the team showed fake confidence by after playing and winning matches on spin friendly pitches where the ball started turning from ball one.

He said that the pacers were not getting an opportunity to bowl in pace friendly conditions and hence were not prepared for the big matches. He stated that the team needed to work hard in a lot of areas to improve as a unit. In the recent Border Gavaskar trophy, the pitch was highly spin friendly as a result the spinners dominated the game from day one. Ravichandran Ashwin (25 wickets), Ravindra Jadeja (22), Nathan Lyon (22) were the top wicket takers.

Harbhajan Singh’s comments comes as an eye opener for the Indian Team and its management. Various comments started coming on Twitter about the former cricketer’s opinion. A Twitter user said it was a hypocrisy by Harbhajan as he never complained about spin pitches when he played for India. He added that BCCI was more concentrated on making money and was not concerned about the team’s performance on the international stage. Another person commented that Harbhajan Singh was better sports journalist in comparison to Harsha Bhogle.
