30 people barge into woman’s house in Ludhiana posing as healthcare workers, steal Rs 5 lakh, gold, laptops

A shocking incident has come to light from Punjab’s Ludhiana where at least 30 people, including two women, barged into a House of a 55-year-old woman, posing as healthcare workers and stole cash, jewellery and other valuable items. The incident occurred in Satjot Nagar at Dhandhra Road.

Reports state the women impersonating healthcare workers rang the doorbell of Ranjit Kaur’s house to confirm if all her family members are Covid-19 vaccinated. A few minutes later, one of the women asked her for water and as soon as Kaur turned around to get water, all the accused barged into the house, overpowered her and looted her.

They stole Rs 5 lakh cash and took away 300 gm of gold jewellery, five laptops and five LCDs. They also damaged the CCTVs installed in the house and stole the digital video recorder from the house.

As soon as Ranjit raised an alarm, locals gathered and nabbed the six accused. Police reached the spot as soon as they received the information and arrested the accused who are identified as Raminder Singh of Ayali Kalan village, Harpreet Singh of Daad village, Gurdeep Singh of Parkash Colony, Hardeep Kaur of Azad Nagar, Paramjit Kaur of Ladda Kothi of Sangrur and Soni Bharat of Sachra Mohalla of Phagwara.

Their aides have been identified as Barinderjit Singh of Lalton Kalan village, Pritpal Singh of Kheri Jhameri village, Gurmeet Kaur, Satnam Singh, and Surinder Saggu, while at least 20 other accused are yet to be identified.

Inspector Gurpreet Singh, SHO of police station Sadar, said Ranjit Kaur in his complaint accused Barinderjit Singh of Lalton Kalan. She stated the accused were hired by a rival of the victim’s family with the intention to take possession of the house.

On the basis of Ranjit Kaur’s complaint, the Sadar Police Station has registered an FIR under Sections 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 448 (house-trespass), 511 (attempt to commit offences), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of an offence committed in prosecution of common object), 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
