Karnataka BJP MLA KS Eshwarappa retires from electoral politics a month before polls

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa on Tuesday wrote a letter to party president JP Nadda that he will not contest the upcoming elections in Karnataka.

Eshwarappa’s decision comes amid a time when the party is delaying the announcement of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. He asked Nadda to not consider his name for the elections which are to be held on May 10.

The veteran legislator, who has frequently been at the center of controversies due to his statements and accusations leveled against him, noted in his short letter written in Kannada that his choice was made of his own will.

He also thanked the party for giving him responsibility in these 40 years of his career as he went from a booth in charge to state party chief.

Eshwarappa turns 75 this June, hitting the unofficial age bar in the BJP for leaders to contest polls and hold posts. Eshwarappa’s decision was welcomed by Bjp Mla Aravind Bellad, who said the senior leader will continue to be actively associated with the party.
