Amid Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha seat, Congress Leader Pawan Khera apologized for his 2022 ‘tapasya’ tweet and heaped praise on the Gandhi family and said it showed a path to India.

Khera who claimed that his tweet was made out of selfishness, said that he has now realized his mistake and cited Rahul Gandhi as a source of inspiration who shuns power and continues his tapasya.

Addressing a public rally during Congress party’s Sankalp Satyagraha at Rajghat in New Delhi yesterday, Khera said he wants to apologize to all of them, to his leadership that in selfishness, when he did not get a Rajya Sabha berth, he wrote that ‘shayad meri tapasya mein kuch kami reh gayi’. He said now he sees Rahul Gandhi that shuns power and still continues his tapasya, what could be bigger than that?

Khera referred to the tweet he made in 2022 after his name was not included in the Rajya Sabha list, he said If you try to murder democracy, Rahul Gandhi will speak, be it from inside Parliament or outside it. You (BJP) are afraid when Rahul Gandhi takes the name of Adani, you will shiver when he will do so on the streets.

Notably, the grand-old party held a day-long Sankalp Satyagraha at Rajghat in New Delhi on Sunday to protest against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha seat following his conviction in a defamation case.

Earlier this week, the Surat court sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years of imprisonment in a defamation case filed by BJP MLA and former Gujarat Minister Purnesh Modi. He has been convicted in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his ‘why all thieves have Modi surname’ remark.
