BJP MLA’s son arrested for taking bribe worth Rs 40 lakh in Karnataka

The son of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Maadal Virupakshappa was arrested by the anti-corruption branch of Lokayukta. As per the reports, the son who is a bureaucrat was caught red-handed taking a Bribe worth Rs 40 Lakh on Friday.

The accused, Prashant Kumar who is serving as the chief accounts officer in the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) was taken into custody. As per reports, Kumar was arrested from the Karnataka state-owned Karnataka Soaps and Detergent LTD. It was reported that the three bags full of cash was recovered from the KSDL office.

BJP MLA Maadal Virupakshappa is the chairman of the KSDL. As per the reports, the son of the Bjp Mla was taking the bribe at the behest of his father.

It was reported that Kumar was caught receiving kickbacks in order to get a deal to buy raw materials used for making soap and detergent. As per the reports, the son of the BJP MLA had sought 81 Lakh Rs from the contractor in return for getting a deal to buy the raw materials required to make soap and detergent.

After the contractor was asked by the son of the BJP MLA for a bribe, the contractor alarmed the Lokayukta about the same after which the anti-corruption branch concocted a plan and instructed the contractor to follow through with the bribe payment as they catch the Channagiri MLA’s son red-handed.

While talking to the media, a senior Lokayukta said that the money was received at the behest of the KSDL chairman and BJP MLA Virupakshappa. He further said that the trap was laid at 6:45 pm after which the anti-corruption unit successfully caught the MLAs son red-handed.

The news about the BJP MLA’s son taking a bribe comes in the wake of the Karnataka Assembly elections that are due this year. The contractors’ association of Karnataka had recently alleged another BJP MLA GH Thippareddy took a bribe of 90 lakhs Rs. The Contractor association had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over complaints about corruption by Ministers.
